Memorial Day is the day we remember the heroes who gave everything – for the soldiers serving next to them and the people they left at home. Memorial Day is a day we are reminded of what combat veterans have given to this country, whether it’s years of service, the first year of their marriage, or their lives.
This year members of St. Michael the Archangel Society, Branch 2 Northside, Pittsburgh, joined together with, St. Gabriel VFW Post 1365, St. Cyril Boy Scout Troop #348, Scout Troop #81 from Wexford, PA, and Cub Scout Troop #935 also from Wexford, PA, to place flags on the graves of Veterans in Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery, (formerly North Side Catholic).
Several evenings were needed by the volunteers to place all 5,247 flags honoring Soldiers from Korea, WWI, WWII, and Vietnam, as well as the recent wars on terrorism.
Many thanks, to Carol Lako, wife of Region 5 Director Mike Lako, for coordinating the efforts from ordering and picking up the flags at the County Office, to organizing all the groups involved.
